A couple of years ago, when our democracy was questioned, I embarked on a research project to ascertain how important democracy is to investment returns. Using this Wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index, I sorted the world’s countries by the strength of their democracy. Then, sampling many of the full democracy investment returns for the past 50 years, I found 10-15% annual returns versus the world’s 8% yearly return. So, yes, a strong democracy is vital to superior investment returns.

The chart tracts the 2022 migration of the world’s millionaires. Check out the size of Switzerland and its 2,200-millionaire gain. Conversely, China and Russia’s one-party communist dictatorships are bleeding the wealthy, their investments, and future returns. The rewards of a strong democracy should continue.
